Almost Human is an action-packed police drama set 35 years in the future, when police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids. The year is 2048. Meet John Kennex a cop who survived one of the most catastrophic attacks ever made against the police department. After waking up from a 17-month coma, he can't remember much - except that his partner was killed; his girlfriend, Anna Moore, left him after the attack; and he lost one of his legs and is now outfitted with a highly sophisticated synthetic appendage. Suffering from depression, mental atrophy, trauma-onset OCD, PTSD and the "psychological rejection of his synthetic body part," John returns to work at the behest of longtime ally Captain Sandra Maldonado. By mandate, every cop must partner with a robot. And despite his passionate aversion to androids, John is paired up with a battle-ready MX-43. But he abruptly terminates his partnership after the robot discovers incriminating information about him. So technician Rudy Lom introduces John to Dorian, a discontinued android with unexpected emotional responses. Although such responses were deemed flaws, it is in these "flaws" that John relates to Dorian most. After all, John is part-machine now, and Dorian is part-human. John and Dorian's understanding of each other not only complements them, it connects them. As he adjusts to working with his new partner, John also must learn to get along with his new colleagues, including the eager and somewhat starstruck Detective Valerie Stahl and the distrustful Detective Richard Paul, who does not welcome John back with open arms. Almost Human will follow the week-to-week missions of John and Dorian, as they fight crime across this futuristic landscape, while the mysteries surrounding his attack and the larger mythology of this new world unfold.
This TV show is not only a great entertainment but also it gives a glimpse of what the future can be. So many gadgets came from these futuristic movies or shows that I am looking for to see what brings the second season. The interaction between Kennex and Dorian is almost unthinkable. It feels like the robot, Dorian, has more common sense when comes to advise than the actually the human, Kennex. I like the very much the light humor between both of them. I believe that the beautiful, intelligent and quite chrome will have more involved in the life of the Kennex. I can see various roads to discover for this plot. Why Kennex's girlfriend deceived him; What is the real reason why Dorian was deactivated; What is on the other side of the wall and etc ... In summary the synopsis of this TV Show is great with different kinds of robots and humans characters, a powerful visual effects; Great combination of humor and acting; strong acting with excellent team of actors, writer and so on
It is 2048 and Detective John Kennex has a reason to be rather sceptical towards androids, but due to regulations is forced to have one as a partner. He is back on the force after an extended restitution period surviving an ambush, sporting a synthetic leg. After an "accident" that destroyed his assigned android partner, he requests a new one and ends up with a model that was discontinued because of some unfortunate episodes. They were designed to be as close to human as possible, with all that entails.<br/><br/>Thematically, the first two episodes explores mainly how Kennex warms up to his new partner Dorian, and I suppose this will be a recurring theme given the name of the show. The plots are well thought-out, designed to explore the world while we get to know the characters better. The action is OK; except that it appears that the police don't hesitate much before shooting twentyfive years from now, the tactics and policework are the same as now... although with more fancy equipment. There is some humour, too, and in the pilot we get some hints on the back-story that will surely be explored further as the season progresses.<br/><br/>Most of the humour is through character interactions, and I think most of the characters are enjoyable and distinct enough at this point.<br/><br/>I am a fan of self-contained episodes, but any TV-show must have a central storyline that progresses season by season - and in many cases a season arc is also desirable. In this show, the central storyline which is hinted at in the pilot is in my opinion not strong enough to draw people in on its own - criminals got intel on him and ambushed him... but so what? The world, however, is interesting enough and so are the characters and the sci-fi themes.<br/><br/>I recommend this show because the self-contained episodes 1 and 2 are entertaining enough to catch my interest. If you are a sci-fi fan or just like action-filled police procedurals, you will probably feel the same.
